Coimbatore Dancer will perform at Doha

Samanvayam, a socio-cultural organisation of Indian expatriates, is celebrating the auspicious occasion of Vishu with a grand cultural programme on Friday.Vishu, known by different names as Baisakhi, Bihu or Puthandu in other parts of India, is the traditional New Year for large sections of Indians as well as for many other countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.

Children from many Indian states will display their talents, in various traditional classical Indian art forms, during the programme, an official said.The programme is scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Education theatre, opposite Qatar National Library at 6pm.Indian Ambassador Dr George Joseph will be the chief guest at the function.Other dignitaries are R Seetharaman, deputy chief executive of Doha Bank, Ganesh Srinivasan, President of Indian Business Professional Network, and C K Menon of Behzad Group of Companies.



To add colour to the cultural programme, Samanvayam is bringing well-known dancer Mrudula Rai and her troupe from India for a Bharathanatyam recital.Mrudula is an accomplished dancer and has represented India at many international forums including the dance festival at Edinburgh, UK. She runs a dance school, Natya Niketan at Coimbatore.
