A kumki elephant, Kapildev (26) of the Kozhikamudhi elephant camp, near Top Slip, broke its chains and started marching on the Top Slip – Parambikulam Road, charging at vehicles, on Saturday. As the sanctuary witnessed a heavy inflow of tourists for the weekend, Field Director of Anaimalai Tiger Reserve H. Basuvaraju and Range Officer of Top Slip S. Thangaraj Paneeerselvam took precautionary measures. Forest Veterinarian N.S. Manoharan along with his team tranquilised the elephant on Sunday. It was brought to the reception area at Top Slip with the help of three other kumki elephants.
