Skill Training Programme

Dr. J. C. Kumarappa Institute of Rural Technology and Development, a training centre of Khadi Village Industries Commission at Gandhiniketan Ashram in T. Kallupatti, will offer short-term skill training programmes from November 12. The training programmes include a five-month module in tailoring and embroidery, four-month course in servicing of electronics and electrical equipment, a course in mechanics (which includes electrical wiring, motor winding, and diesel engine mechanism), three-month training programme in cutting and tailoring, two-month course in fitting, plumbing and pump mechanism, one-month training in electrical wiring, detergent cake making, spices and masala making, two-week training in screen printing, one-week training in cleaning powder making, detergent powder, fruit jam, squash and pickle making, and a four-day training course in bio manure and vermi compost.

Under stipendiary programmes, the institute offers six-month training in composite rural engineering (electrical wiring and steel fabrication), footwear and leather goods making, electrical motor winding, steel fabrication, fancy leather and rexin goods making, two-month training in toilet and laundry soap making, hand-made paper conversion (notebooks, file, cover, carry bags), exercise book manufacturing, fancy leather goods making, fruits and vegetable processing and a one-month training programme in motor rewinding. Those who have passed Class X and are between the age group of 18 and 45 are eligible to apply. Candidates admitted under the stipendiary courses who stay in the hostel will be paid a stipend of Rs.800 per month. Out station candidates will be given free hostel accommodation.


Admitted candidates should pay a minimum fee of Rs.100 per month. Women and candidates from Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe and minority communities, those with disabilities and ex-servicemen will be exempted from course fees. After training, the candidates will be guided to start their own businesses. Those who want to start their own enterprises, self–help groups, candidates sponsored by Central and State government departments, societies, industries, organisations and associations too can apply for the programmes.
