51 Girls Selected For Scholarship
As many as 51 girls with visual impairment from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh were selected for Marga-Schulze Scholarship for the 2008-09. They were selected through an interview jointly conducted by the UDIS Forum, a network facilitating employment of persons with disabilities, and Avinashilingam University for Women here on Saturday. On the whole, 110 girls with visual impairment would benefit from the scholarship this year, said M.N.G. Mani, President of the UDIS Forum. The scheme provided a merit scholarship of Rs.12,000, Rs.15,000, and Rs.18,000 for students undergoing graduate, B.Ed., and post-graduate courses.
S.T. Anusha and Beno Zephine, both from Stella Maris College, Chennai, topped the graduate and under-graduate categories while Paul Arasakumari from the Avinashilingam College for Women, Coimbatore, stood first in the B.Ed. category. The scholarship was routed through CBM Germany, one of the international organisations working for the cause of disability.
