Collector Reviewed

The District Collector, V. Palanikumar, reviewed the performance of bankers on extension of advances to the priority and non-priority sectors under the Annual Credit Plan of the District Lead Bank. The meeting reviewed the extension of advances in the first quarter of the fiscal 2008-09 ending June 2008. The meeting stated that in the first quarter, Rs. 443 crore was given as advances to the farming sector, Rs. 956 crore to small industries, Rs. 264 crore to other loans and a total of Rs. 1,663 crore had been extended to the priority and non-priority sectors.
The Collector asked the bankers to ensure that the loans were given at a faster pace to the distressed sections and women self-help groups.The District Collector, V. Palanikumar, conducted a meeting of the heads of various departments to check the preparedness of the official machinery in handling situations arising out of the setting in of North East Monsoon.

The meeting asked the officials to identify areas known for flash floods and inundation and to ensure preventive measures well ahead of the torrential downpour. The role of every department and the required levels of coordination were also discussed. The meeting advised the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Public Works Department, Police, Highways, Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Personnel and other departments to be prepared.
