New IG

Pramod Kumar (right) on Wednesday takes over as Inspector-General of Police, West Zone, from Sanjay Arora, who has been posted as IG, Armed Police, Chennai. Pramod Kumar, an IPS officer of the 1989 batch, assumed office as the Inspector-General of Police(IGP), West Zone, on Wednesday. He replaces Sanjay Arora, who has been transferred and posted as IGP Armed Police, Chennai. Mr. Pramod Kumar was first Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Chengelput, Jayamkondan, Koilpatti and on promotion as Superintendent of Police he had served at Ramanathapuram, Salem and Vellore and was Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Coimbatore city.


On promotion as Deputy Inspector-General of Police, he had served on deputation in Border Security Force, Railway Police and then with the Union Ministry of Health, Union Ministry of Information Technology and Communication. On promotion as Inspector-General of Police, he was IG – Economic Offences Wing and his last assignment was Commissioner of Police, Tiruchirapalli city.


Free registration of complaints would be ensured and police officers would be told not to turn down complainants, Mr. Pramod Kumar told reporters here. Steps would be taken to protect the rights of the people and complainants. Law and Order maintenance and crime prevention measures would be stepped up. He said that due attention would be given to ensure road safety and reduce fatal accidents on highways that run through the West Zone. The measures initiated by my predecessor would be sustained and carried forward, he added.
