Rally To Oppose Power Cut

Members of the Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Micro Enterprises taking out a rally in the city on Wednesday to oppose power cuts being imposed. The Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Small Industries organised a rally and demonstration here on Wednesday protesting against the long hours of power shutdown and unannounced power cuts in the district.

Association president J. James said in a release that during the last 10 months, small and cottage industries here were facing the threat of closure because of the present power crisis. Despite repeated appeals to the State Government to protect these units, there was no response. All units were incurring huge losses. Larger companies with foreign investments were assured of uninterrupted power supply whereas the smaller domestic units were hit by frequent and unannounced power cuts. The Government should subsidise use of generators for captive consumption and this would save 2,000 MW to 2,500 MW, he said.
