Following complaints about tax evasion by omni bus operators especially those plying to Kerala, the Transport Department conducted surprise checks on Friday night. A release from the Deputy Transport Commissioner, T. Gunasekaran, said that a total of 270 omni buses were checked. A total of 131 cases were registered. Mr. Gunasekaran said that for checking the complete particulars of an omni bus, the officials would require 20 minutes and this would lead to detention of the bus. Hence, the Transport Department has asked the public to travel by buses operated by reliable and reputed operators.
