Vinayaka Idol Immersed Peacefully
A Vinayaka idol being immersed in Muthannankulam in the city on Sunday. More than 100 idols of Lord Vinayaka were immersed after three separate processions in the city on Sunday. The processions and immersion passed off peacefully under a heavy security cover right through the procession routes and the immersion spot - the Muthannankulam. The immersion was a staggered process, carried out on Friday and Sunday. Totally, 208 idols had been installed across the city. Of these, 100 were immersed on Friday.The major processions and immersion of 108 idols were scheduled for Sunday. In a procession organised by the Hindu Makkal Katchi, 13 idols were taken from Thernilai Thidal and immersed in the tank by afternoon. In the evening, 36 idols were taken out in a procession from V.K.K. Menon Road at Gandhipuram and 57 from Theppakulam. All the idols were immersed by 8 p.m. Totally, 1,068 policemen provided tight security along the procession routes and at the tank. The city police had made traffic diversion in view of the processions.
