Coimbatore Tidel park works started

The design for the Tidel Park in Coimbatore is likely to be finalised in the next few days.Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) managing director C. Uma Shankar told that a couple of designs had been prepared and they were waiting for the final approval of the State Government. The park would have a built-up area of 10 lakh sq.ft. and was coming up at a total investment of approximately Rs. 300 crore.

Mr. Uma Shankar said with the additional 27 acres allotted to the Corporation for the Information Technology park, the 56-acre premises near the Coimbatore Medical College would be occupied by Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services and the Tidel Park, with each of them taking 10 acres. Another 10 acres had been earmarked for a six-lane road in the premises. On the remaining 14 acres, ELCOT was contemplating a social infrastructure project such as housing and shopping facilities. "We are yet to decide on how to use the remaining land - an IT park or housing facilities, or both," he said.

ELCOT would also apply soon to the Central Government for extension of the Special Economic Zone status to the additional 27 acres allotted to it recently. A detailed project report was also under preparation. This would help in financial tie-ups for the project, he said.
