Jain Irrigation Systems (JISL) is all set to roll out its PVC and polyethylene pipes from its Coimbatore facility in January 2008. The company has set up its manufacturing facility here at a cost of Rs 100 crore. In 2005, JISL acquired Terra Agro Technologies, a closely held company promoted by Vijay Mohan and family, who are promoters of the Pricol group. JISL managing director Anil Jain told the company had already started trial production of PVC and polyethylene pipes at its Terra Agro facilities. Apart from this, JISL will produce drip laterals and inline tubing for micro irrigation business. On the lines of the Jalgaon facility, JISL has started using this land spread over 1,250 acres as an R&D farm. The company is said to have already brought 700 acres under drip irrigation for different horticultural crops and planted over 36,000 amla plants, 10,000 coconut trees, 20,000 mango plants and has over 100 acres for banana cultivation. Claiming to be the largest producer of tissue culture bananas in the country, Mr Jain said: “We have specific focus on banana tissue culture. Hardening facilities for tissue culture banana at the farm have been created and presently the facility can hold about five lakh plants at any point in time. We have been making steady inroads into the already well-established tissue culture banana market in the state. We deliver over 20 lakh plants today in Tamil Nadu, which may eventually go up to 50 lakh plants in two years time.” JISL also plans to set up one more tissue culture lab facility in Tamil Nadu, which will cater to the southern markets up to Andhra Pradesh.
