Conference On Gandhian Role
Parents should set an example for children to emulate, K.C. Leelavathy, Dean Centre for Women’s Studies, Avanashilingam University, said here recently. She was speaking at a conference on “Role of Gandhian Study Centres in Propagating Gandhiji’s ideals” organised by the Gandhian Study Centre of Avanashilingam University.
The speakers stressed the need for teachers to ensure that Gandhian ideals were imparted to students at least one day a week. Introducing children to Gandhian ideologies would help in shaping their personality. Gandhian thoughts would help in developing confidence and good thinking too.
Vice-Chancellor Saroja Prabhakaran said simplicity was the hallmark of Gandhiji’s life and it was important for present generation to practise it. From 2006 to 2008, Gandhian Study Centres were set up in 100 schools in Sulur, Perianaickenpalayam, Thudiyalur, Karamadai and Thondamuthur blocks. A group discussion was also held.
