Register Promptly Birth & Death Certificates
The district administration has called upon the officials of the Revenue Department and local bodies to ensure prompt registration of birth and death. At a coordination meeting held to review birth and death registration, District Revenue Officer S. Prabhakaran stressed 100 per cent registration and wanted all possible measures taken to ensure this. A press release from the administration said that Mr. Prabhakaran wanted police officials investigating deaths due to accidents, murders and suicide to report these to the registration officials. It had also been announced in the Assembly that Village Administrative Officers, Executive Officers of town panchayats and Sanitary Officers of municipalities should issue birth certificates free of cost.
Steps had been taken to provide adequate number of the certificates to Tahsildars, Municipal Commissioners and Executive Officers of town panchayats. Orders had been issued to computerise taluk offices for the issuing of birth certificates. Mr. Prabhakaran also sought a report on the progress of this process in a week. He also instructed the officials to ensure whether enough forms for birth and death certificates were available and whether these were being issued properly. Appropriate remedial measures should be taken wherever problems occurred.
