Tussor Machine Tools will starts on May

The unit will produce 600 machine tools a month. Tussor Machine Tools India Private Limited, manufacturer of lathes and a wholly owned subsidiary of Tussor S.L. Andorra of Spain, is setting up a manufacturing facility here at an investment of Rs. 180 crore. The plant will start rolling out machine tools from May. Ravi Sonalkar, its Managing Director, told The Hindu that the Coimbatore unit would produce 600 machine tools a month. Metosa, a sister company of Tussor, located in Spain, was producing about 350 lathes a month.

While the production from Spain would go to the European and the U.S. markets, the lathes made in Coimbatore would be supplied to the rest of the world (Tussor already has a market in about 40 countries), he said. Machinery and equipment for production of the lathes were imported from different countries including, Japan, Spain, the U.S. and Korea while some machinery were sourced domestically.

Tussor India had a vendor base of about 50 units and these would supply castings and finished components, he said. Mr. Sonalkar said that with full production, the plant would supply lathes worth Rs. 35-40 crore every month.
