Coimbatore tidel park would be ready by August

The stage is set for providing laptops to IAS officers in Tamil Nadu with the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (ELCOT) procuring the machines as laid out in the IT policy, announced in the last budget.Also, the E-Governance Training Academy, as envisaged in the policy, would be ready in a month or two.

Yet another IT Park has been added to the already existing list of Tidel Parks planned by the government, with a one million sq ft of space planned at Madurai.The laptops have been procured from computer manufacturer, Lenovo, and they were waiting for the Chief Minister's approval to begin the process of providing the officials with the laptops, C Umashankar, Managing Director, ELCOT, told reporters here.

The Training Academy would come up at the Anna Institute of Management and would be ready in a month or two, Tamil Nadu IT Secretary C Chandramouli said.The government had allotted Rs 20 lakh for the setting up of the Academy.The Tamil Nadu government is keen to harness e-governance as an enabler for ushering in a new era of digital governance, for creation of a model 'e-governed state' in the country, Karunanidhi had said.

Umashankar said another IT park would be coming up in Madurai and a decision on whether a Public Private Partnership route or government agencies executing it, was yet to be made.
Umashankar said a concept proposal with particular modalities had been submitted and a decision would be made on the basis of that. With this IT park, Madurai would have two IT parks. The investment for the proposed IT park is expected to be around Rs 300 crore.
To a query, he said work on the Tidel Park at Coimbatore was progressing and would be ready by July or August.
