Coimbatore Institutions: It's MoU Time!
After Bharathiar University, Kumaraguru College of Technology & P.S.G.R. Krishnammal College for Women also joined MoU race.
KCT inks MoU with INRA-France
COIMBATORE: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), Coimbatore, and National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA), France, here on Wednesday.
Prof K Arumugam, Correspondent of KCT, and Yves Griveau, Secretary General, International Relations, INRA, inked the pact in the presence of Dr N Mahalingam, Chairman of KCT, and Dr Bruno Rouot, Attache Scientific, French Embassy at the KCT conference hall.
The agreement would expand the scope of research on agriculture, food and nutrition and environment. The INRA has 21 regional centres and 14 research departments with 8850 employees, 1840 researchers and 2360 engineers.
Already a collaboration agreement between KCT and INRA’s Laboratory of Environmental Biotechnology (LBE) was signed here in 2005.
Its areas included, development of new technologies for waste water treatment and exchange of students and faculty. Two students from France attended a training programme at KCT.
Speaking on the occasion, Yves Griveau said that KCT and INRA-LBE would jointly organise an International Conference on “Small water and waste water system” in Coimbatore in February 2008.
Dr Bruno Rouot of French Embassy inaugurated a website in this regard to facilitate scientists from all over the world to access details and attend the global conference. Dr Michel Torrijos, Research Engineer, INRA, Dr Joseph Thanikal, principal, KCT, and M Sethu, chief executive, Syndicate Exports Pvt Ltd, participated. Dr A Selvarkumar, joint correspondent welcomed.

MoU envisages making more girls entrepreneurs
COIMBATORE: Coimbatore is in a commendable position today because of entrepreneurial initiatives of private players and not because of any Government support or public enterprise, C.R. Swaminathan, Chief Executive of PSG Institutions said here on Wednesday.
Interaction:He was speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA) and P.S.G.R. Krishnammal College for Women. Exchanged by the Principal of the college R. Yesodha Devi and Vice-President of CODISSIA M. Kandasamy, the MoU aims at greater interaction between the industry and institution.
Infrastructure :"With infrastructure seeing improvements everyday, Coimbatore is going to become a happening place. All sectors have made a mark in this industrial city. Students should use the opportunities they get through such MoUs to get acquainted with the industry for exchange of knowledge and latest developments", Mr. Swaminathan said.
He urged the faculty members to maintain the networking between CODISSIA and the students to make them get the full benefit of the MoU. Mr. Kandasamy said: "Women should be given equal opportunities to become entrepreneurs. They should come out of the traditional mould of being just homemakers and become entrepreneurs. Exchange of information and expertise between the industry and the institution is essential to make industry-ready entrepreneurs".
Programmes :The MoU would also facilitate joint venture programmes in management, computer application, bio-technology and environment management; participation of students and associates of member organisations in fairs and exhibitions. This will help utilize the intellectual capabilities of the faculty and students for the benefit of the industry.
