Coimbatore Railways station gets Day-Night LED Display & Cyber Cafe
Chennai-Nizamuddin Garib Rath before March
Coimbatore, Jan 16: Garib Rath train from Chennai to Nizamuddin would be introduced before March and another was planned between Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram, Thomas Varghese, Southern Railway general manager, told reporters here today.
Thomas, here to commission a day and night LED-based display device and an Internet Cyber Cafe at Coimbatore City railway station, said such cafes were planned in Chennai, Salem, Madurai and Tiruchi.
The cyber cafe would charge Rs 23 per hour for browsing, the clarity and speed of which would be much better than those available outside, he claimed.
The Rs 30 lakh device would be an added benefit for the passengers, he said, adding that Railways was planning to introduce a system in important AC chair cars, by which the passengers could know the station, which would be displayed on a screen in the compartment.
It was also planned to install surveillance cameras in important stations like Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Kozhikode, which would record the happenings on the platforms. This, he said, would cost around Rs 30 lakh per station.
Considering the frequent bomb hoax calls, the railways would provide called ID for phones, sniffer dogs and bomb detection squad for RPF, in important stations in Southern Railway.
For development of infrastructure facilities, the Railway ministry has sanctioned about Rs 40 crore this year as against Rs 16 crore last year, Thomas said.
