Power supply cut to 59 dyeing units at Tirupur
COIMBATORE: Power supply to 59 dyeing units in Tirupur was suspended on Wednesday following their failure to install reverse osmosis (RO) units.
A case was filed in the Madras High Court in December 2006, seeking a directive to 83 dyeing units to install RO plants to achieve zero discharge. The court had granted a month’s time to the dyeing units for the installation of the RO units.
A committee for supervising the progress of the RO installation works found that only 24 of the 83 units had completed the installation of the RO units within the time limit specified by the court and reported it to the government.
Based on the report, orders were issued for the suspension of power supply to the dyeing units. Accordingly, officials of the State Pollution Control Board cut power supply to the 59 dyeing units.
