2000 workers of auto unit held
Coimbatore: Over 2000 workers of the automobile instruments manufacturing company at Periyanaickenpalayam, who staged a road roko on Friday, were arrested by the police on Saturday.
The workers had been agitating for the past one week demanding withdrawal of the transfer orders served on six workers by the management shifting them to the far off Uttaranchal where the company has a production unit.The workers blocked road on the LMW juncton near the Mettupalayam Road following which vehicular movement was hit for several hours.
Revenue Divisional Officer, District Social Welfare Officer and Superintendent of Police held talks with the agitating workers but to no avail. The talks continued till the wee hours of Saturday morning sources said.
