Coimbatore:Work starts at about 9.30 in the morning at the Business Post Centre at the Coimbatore Head Post Office. And, it goes on till all the mails for the day are despatched, numbering to thousands on most of the days. What happens at the centre is not just booking posts, but providing complete "postal solutions".
The centre, which was opened about eight years ago, records business to the tune of Rs. 75 lakh a month and India Post has opened a similar facility at Gandhipuram recently. Be it phone bills, company statements, college mail or wedding cards - any bulk mailing order is accepted at the centre. The customer has to just give the printed material. About 50 people at the centre provide the "complete solution" from folding and putting the letters in covers, fixing stamps, and posting the mails and this service comes for a nominal additional cost. In several cases, men collect the material from the companies directly. The mails are delivered on the same day if it is within the city.
Moves are on to even take print-outs of the materials at the post office itself, if needed. According to K.V. Sundar Rajan, the Post Master General, Western Region, about two years ago the centre had a monthly business of nearly Rs. 30 lakh. It is now Rs. 75 lakh. For details, contact: 0422- 4361663.
