Coimbatore property developers go Green
How wonderful it would be to walk on velvety Korean grass rather than on dull mosaic flooring? Sounds good. Bringing life close to the Nature — this is what seems to be the buzzword of residential property developers in Coimbatore. As the apartment lifestyle is catching up in the city, there seems to be an increasing awareness among the property developers towards greener houses.Pricol Property Developers (PPDL), the real estate arm of the auto component major Pricol, is positioning itself as an “eco-friendly” builder with the tagline ‘breathing life into spaces’. All its projects would have lots of open space and greenery. “We just don’t want to create brick and mortar houses. We want to create homes. The idea is to improve the quality of life,” Mr Vikram Mohan, director, PPDL, told ET.
We aim at creating a greener and more natural living space and provide our customers with all the amenities that modern housing has. We intend to change the face of property development in Coimbatore with our emphasis on environmentally-centered building practices, Mr Vikram added. The name of PPDL’s projects goes thus: Saffron Summers, Wenlock Woods, Crimson Dawn and Silver Springs — with each project having a particular tree planted in a row giving it a feel of boulevard.
According to Mr Hari Khemchand, director, Presidium Constructions: “We give them a home where they can enjoy the simple pleasures of life which are all but absent in today’s concrete jungles”. All the projects of Presidium will have 35-40% open space and greenery, he claims. But with space costing a fortune in this booming city, is house garden not a dream? “No, a home garden is not a dream. It’s practical.
Your garden is as much a part of your house as your living room. Our city has done well to take to rainwater harvesting in a big way, and a garden will help percolation process and ensure the foundation is not damaged by retaining moisture around the building, besides replenishing the ground water,” says a citybased landscape architect. Judicious planting, a small investment in irrigation systems and studied selection of plants is all needed to lead an eco-friendly life, he says.
