MAAC going to open institute in Coimbatore
To cash in on the rapid growth in the Indian animation industry, Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), a division of Maya Entertainment, is increasing its footprint in India and abroad. After opening its 49th institute offering courses in animation and visual effects,Rajesh Turakhia, CEO of Maya Entertainment, said MAAC is planning to open institutes in Dubai and Sri Lanka soon.
Already the company has set up institutes in the UK, West Asia, Singapore and Nepal. Next on the agenda is the US and Philippines. In India, MAAC is focusing on south India. Apart from Kannur and now Kochi, it will set up institutes at Kozhikode and Kottayam. In addition to second centre in Chennai, it is planning institutes at Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Vizag. MAAC is targeting 75-85 institutes in 2007-08.
Mr Turakhia said the Indian animation industry is growing by over 40% and is set to move up from the current $500 million to $1.5 billion in three years. Besides the advent of many TV channels, films are also increasingly using digital content and visual effects. Outsourcing of projects from the US and other countries for big budget films, promos, games and others is on the rise, he said.
