No plans to relocate Coimbatore Central Jail

The Tamil Nadu Government has no plans to relocate the central prisons or set up new sub-jails in the State, Tamil Nadu Revenue and Prisons Minister, I Periyasamy said today. Replying to a specific question on plans to relocate the Coimbatore Central Jail , Periyasamy told reporters that the Government has not received any request to shift it to Vellalore on the outskirts.

Even if there was the need to relocate the jail, it has to be decided by Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi, he said. Periyasamy, here to review various facilities in the Central jail, said rs.71 lakh have already been sanctioned to modernise the kitchen here.Moreover, an industrial unit would also be set up in the jail, to provide training to the convicts and undertrials, he said.
