Younger generation workers losing confidence in Unions
Industries want to maintain good industrial relations
Coimbatore:With continued strike in a leading dashboard factory on the outskirts for the past three week, the trade and industry associations of Coimbatore were gravely concerned over the methods adopted by the employees, like coming to the streets and picketing the National Highway.
Though the major associations claimed that they were not interfering in the agitation in any individual industry, they were afraid of the similar trend entering the other industries in the district, spoiling the 'very good industrial relations, special only to Coimbatore region.' According to D Balasundaram, President, local chapter of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, coming on to the streets by the employees, would spoil the industrial relation atmosphere in the city and create an adverse image about the city, which was expected to attract huge investment in the near future, with the establishment of Government sponsored IT Park.
Despite being a member of the association, we are not pinpointing the happening or fighting for the cause of that particular industry and not taking a view on the industrial dispute of that company,Balasundaram said. But we are afraid that such happenings will impede our efforts to attract investment to the region and prove to be a set back to the employment generation, he said. The trend could be result of younger generation losing the confidence of old trade unionists and their style of funtioning, he said.
