4.2 lakh mobile connections for Coimbatore
As part of the expansion plans of CellOne, the mobile segment of BSNL, Coimbatore would get an additional 4.2 lakh connections, out of 42 lakh being allotted to Tamil Nadu to be implemented in three phases, a senior official said.Under the phase V-1, 1.4 lakh connections would be provided during this year, for which 140 to 150 cell towers would be erected, A Shahjahan, Principal General Manager (in-charge), of the circle told reporters here.Out of this, 80 towers were to be erected in villages and works were in progress in 21 sites and the remaining towers would be installed in phased manner, after creating necessary infrastructure and arrival of equipment, he said.The public, holding pre-paid cards, have been cautioned to submit their proof of address, to show the originals at the customer care or service centre, immediately, to avoid disconnection, he said.As part of customer centric activities, the department today introduced a 'total hassle-free, tension free' bill payment system through credit/debit cards in the city, Tirupur, Pollachi and Udumalpet.The area is having 168 telephone exchanges for wired lines with 3.41 lakh working connections and 31 WLL exchanges with 26,819 working connections, Shahjahan said.
