Bannari Amman Sugars acquried Maheshwara sugars

Bannari Amman Sugars (BASL) is planning to buy a 2,500-TCD (tonnes of cane crushed per day) unit at Kollegal in Karnataka for Rs 60 crore from Maheshwara sugars. The deal is expected to be completed by this month end. BASL chairman S V Balasubramaniam said it was planning to acquire the unit and expand its capacity to 6,000 TCD besides putting up a co-generation plant of 27 mw. “We have earmarked Rs 200 crore for scaling up the capacity and setting up a co-gen facility.”

BASL has sugar factories at Sathyamangalam in Tamil Nadu and at Alaganchi village near Nanjangud in Karnataka. The capacity at the Sathyamangalam unit stands at 4,000 TCD, while that of Nanjangud unit is 5,000 TCD. The units have a combined annual capacity of 0.25 million tonnes of sugar. Cane is crushed for close to 280 days on an average at both locations and the recovery has always been above 10 %, according to sources.
