Cable Car in Ooty soon

State Tourism Minister Suresh Rajan said that in the next 4 months through HADP (Hill Area Development Project) a path way would be laid around the Ooty lake at an outlay of Rs 1.4 crore.He was speaking yesterday at the valedictory session of Nilgiris Tea and Tourism festival here. Work on the cable car project would commence shortly and it would be completed within 24 months, he assured. There was 23 per cent increase in tourist inflow at Nilgiris ? 21 lakh domestic tourists and 32,000 foreign visitors.

At present, 30 buses were in use by the Tourism Development Corporation and another 10 high-tech buses would be introduced shortly, Rajan informed. In Tamilnadu Hotel at Ooty, 21 rooms would be renovated at a cost of Rs 50 lakh. Nilgiris District Collector Santosh K Misra expressed thanks to the State government for helping in the removal of water hyacinth from the Ooty lake. He asked the people to take up tree plantations in a big way to preserve the greenery of this hill station.


Udhagamandalm Municipal chairman said the re-laying of roads would be taken up soon for which Rs 12.6 crore had been allotted so far. In the past due to good rain, water position was comfortable, he noted. Suresh Rajan and Khadi Minister K Ramachandran gave away prizes and mementos to the participants of various contests at the festival.
