May 1st Great Day for Tourists
Udhagamandalam: The Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park near here and the Anamalais Sanctuary near Pollachi are likely to be thrown open to visitors on May 1.Stating this to media persons here on Wednesday, the Conservator of Forests, P.C.Tyagi said that they have remained closed for the past several weeks due to the prolonged dry spell. Since the conditions have improved and chances of bush fires breaking out have come down, permission of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests has been sought to reopen the sanctuaries. When they are reopened the elephant rides also would resume.
During the closure many of the amenities within the sanctuaries had been improved.Focus was on upgrading the public conveniences and cleaning the water tanks. A sum of Rs. 45 lakh has been sought for implementing a water supply scheme at Anamalais. The accommodation facilities have also been improved at Anamalais.
