Ooty Summer camp attracts Kids
With a number of summer camps being organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and some other associations, the Breeks-HADP Open Air Stadium Ooty has become a beehive of activity. The Nilgiris District Sports Officer, P. Samuel Raja Daniel told The Hindu that two athletic camps for long distance running commenced on Wednesday.
About 75 boys and girls in the age group 13 to 15 were participating.

Many of them were from the Girls Sports Hostel, Erode. During their stay here they would benefit from the techniques adopted in high altitude training. Children belonging to the lower strata of society from places like Gudalur were also participating. Pointing out that it was the first time about 25 girls were taking part in such a camp, athletics coach Suganthi Annavi said that the focus was on building stamina. A balanced diet was being provided. Exceptionally talented youngsters would be given intensive training. A plan of action has been drawn for the first week.
As the camp progresses the daily routine would change. Stating that a five-day non-residential coaching camp for school children conducted by the Education Department was now in progress at the stadium, Mr.Daniel said that simultaneously football and basketball camps were being conducted.
