National Highways authorities, with the assistance of Coimbatore district and police officials, today demolished 27 houses, built on encroached land at Kurichi in the city.The Madras High Court has, some months ago, ordered that structures constructed on water bodies and other encroached lands be demolished.Armed with the order, the authorities demolished the houses this afternoon, official sources said.Since the affected belong to below poverty line families, they have been provided alternate land in Madukkarai on the outskirts, the sources said.
