Ayurvedic biscuits, cookies and ketchups for kids

Children are being wooed to Ayurveda with specially prepared Ayurvedic biscuits, cookies and ketchups and even baby food. 'Catch them young' is the new mantra Ayurveda practitioners are adopting as they try to instil in the children, the taste of Ayurvedic medicines and health supplements at a young age, says P R Krishna Kumar, Managing Director of Coimbatore-based Arya Vaidya Pharmacy Ltd (AVP). For babies, 'Poshana' a health mix comprising cereals, pulses and 'Kunnamkai', a plantain variety in Kerala, has been introduced. "Introducing Chyavanprash to children at a young age is difficult as it is messy and so it was decided to bring out the product in the form of biscuits and cookies, which was a great hit," he told a news agency'Chyavana', 'Aswagandha' and 'Bramhi' biscuits and cookies, introduced in the market about six months ago are doing extremely well, he said.

While 'Chyavana' is for improving general health, 'Aswagandha' increases strength and vitality and 'Brahmi' enhances memory power. AVP has also introduced herbal ketchup with tomato base, besides pickles, which are available in three flavours-- ginger-tamarind mix, tender mango and lemon, Dr P G Krishnaswamy, General Manager, Product Development, said. There is good demand for them in the gulf market the pharmacy has also introduced herbal tea in 10 different flavours, which would address problems like headaches, digestion and obesity, says Dr R Murallans to convert Chyavanprash in sugar free.
