Fight between law collage students Vs Residents

Nearly 200 residents of Kalveerampalayam, on the city outskirts, today staged a road roko, demanding that the Government Law College there be shifted as some of the students were allegedly misbehaving with the local people, including women.The cited the last night's incident when over 100 law students went on a rampage, ransacking shops and eateries and attacking people, after two students picked up a quarrel with a youth in a bus and subsequent exchange of blows with some of the residents, police said.

Three persons were injured and admitted to the Government Hospital here. Cases have been registered against some 50 students, based on a complaint by the residents.Following the incident, students blocked traffic on the Maruthamalai Road, prompting police to deploy a few policemen.Angered over the incident, the residents gathered and squatted on the road junction, about eight km. from here, today and raised slogans against the students' behaviour.About 50 shops in the area downed their shutters.Demanding the immediate arrest of the students, who allegedly indulged in violence and used abusive language, the residents also wanted the Government to shift the college, to put an end to recurring 'menace', police said.They lifted the nearly two-and-half hour long blockade after senior district and police officials assured to find a lasting solution to the problem, police said.
