IT park in Coimbatore offering 10,000 jobs

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced in the Assembly that a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) would come up at Ennore.Replying to a debate on the demands for grants for the Industries Department, he said the SEZ would be set up on a 3,000-acre site and added that the Centre had given its nod for tranferring 1,800 acres belonging to Salt Department for this purpose.He said the SEZ to come up at an estimted cost of Rs 630 crore would have manufacturing units of automobile spares, garments, tanneries, electronic components, light and heavy machinery equipment.

Karunanidhi said a petroleum refinery with 60 lakh tonne capacity would come up at a cost of Rs 4,790 crore in Cuddalore district. The new refinery is a joint venture between Tamilnadu Industry Development Corporation (TIDCO) and Nagarjuna Oil Corporation. Work on the refinery would comence during this fiscal.The Chief Minister said the State government in collaboration with Singapore-based Ascendas company had set up two IT parks and added that the government in the third phase had planned to initiate construction work on six lakh sq ft area at a cost of Rs 167.5 crore in this financial year.


On the Nanguneri Special Economic Zone in Tirunelveli district, he said the government would take up the project at a cost of Rs 1,025 crore. Acquisition of 2,510 sq ft of land had already been completed and the project is in its final stage. It is estimated that the State's forex earnings through export in the next 10 years would go up by Rs 9,000 crore annually besides 50,000 people getting employment.Karunanidhi also informed that an IT park would be set in Coimbatore at a cost of Rs 300 crore on 10 lakh-acre site. Both ELCOT and Tidel Park would jointly set up this project offering 10,000 jobs for IT professionals and 2,000 people getting indirect employment.
