National basketball tournament starts here
Eight leading teams would vie for honours in the 49th all-India basketball tournament for men for the Nachimuthu Gounder Cup beginning here from May 10.Holders Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai, runners up Indian Army, Delhi, ICF, Chennai, Vijaya Bank, Bangalore, South Eastern Central Railway, Raipur, KSEB, Thiruvananthapuram, South Central Railway, Secunderabad and Customs and Central Excise, Cochin, have been selected to participate in the tournament, played on a league-cum-knockout basis, T Palaniswamy, Coimbatore District Basketball Association, told reporters here.The tournament would be for six days, with the teams divided into two pools.The sixth all-India basketball tournament for women for the CRI Pumps Trophy would also be held for six days from May 10.Six teams, including reigning champion Western Railway, Mumbai, South Eastern Central Railway, Bilaspur, KSEB, Thiruvananthapuram, Southern Railway, Chennai, South Central Railway, Secunderabad, Central Railway, Mumbai and Kerala Juniors, Kerala, will vie for honours.
