Special summer camps for schoolchildren

The Gandhian Study Centre of Avinashilingam University will organise special summer camps for schoolchildren in four different parts of the city. The programmes have been designed specially for rural children whose parents cannot afford to send them to expensive camps, which coach students in swimming, skating, dance, music and other such activities."The lesser-privileged children too should be given an opportunity to utilise their vacations in a productive manner instead of wasting it in front of the television," said K.Thangamani, Co-ordinator of the Centre.

The camp would teach children the basics of environmental hygiene and sanitation, health education, the importance of nutritious food for better health, leadership qualities, patriotism, fitness and exercise, yoga and meditation and it would give them exercises to develop communication skills. They would also be introduced to Gandhian thought and would be taken through Gandhian principles and ideals. The camp would be held at Avinashilingam University from May 7 to 11 for children studying in Classes VI to IX from Kamarajapuram, Kamppa Nagar, Saibaba Colony, Ramalingam Colony and North Coimbatore. For those from Asokapuram, Dhaliyur, Panni Madai, Nanjundapuram, Pappanaickenpalayam and Vellakinar areas, it would be held from May 14 to 18 at the Thudiyalur Government School.
