TEA to set up Apparel Training and Design Centres
The Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) sees that the readymade garment and knitwear exports from Tirupur have crossed Rs 11000 crore during 2006-07 against the set target of Rs 10000 crore, A Sakthivel, president, TEA said.Earlier, TEA set a target of Rs 10000 crore export to be achieved by the calendar year 2007 and now encouraged by the performance, the exporters now expect a 20 - 25 percent growth during this fiscal.The president on exploring new markets said that Russia and Japan seem to be promising and the exporters are looking forward to tap it and a 11- member delegation led by union textiles minister, Mr Shankersinh Vaghela recently visited these countries.
Further, the association along with Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) is holding talks with various district administrations in the state to set up Apparel Training and Design Centres (ATDCs) to impart training to rural people with an aim of overcoming the labour shortage.TEA is also negotiating with the district administration of Dharmapuri and hope to start our training centres in Trichy and Kanchipuram also in a year's time.The 24th edition of the India Knit Fair (IKF) for spring / summer collection 2008 scheduled from May 9-11 at the IKF complex here in the city is to showcase the latest knitwear collection from Tirupur knitted garment exporters.On commenting on the fair, the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) and the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) said apart from the Tirupur - based export houses, around 50 knitwear manufacturers from outside will be participating in the fair.
