Entrepreneurship development for palmyrah tappers
A two day training on entrepreneurship development for palmyrah tappers has suggested to evolve measures to increase the shelf life of palmyrah products and to improve packaging methods for commercial marketing.The training and demonstration of tree climbers were held at Nambiyur village in Gobi taluk of Erode district on June 20.
The programme suggested to evolve new strategy to preserve the existing palmyrah palms and encourage new planting so that the dependent palmyrah tappers could be benefited, a release from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, which had organised the training, said here today.The meeting also sought assistance for fixing rate and for commercial marketing of value-added edible and non-edible palmyrah products and suggested ways to modify tree climbing.
Two schemes 'EDVA' and 'Survey, collection and evaluation of palmyrah types of higher 'neera' yield and post harvest characters'funded by Department of Biotechnogy, Ministry of Science and Technology, Delhi were under operation at the Horticulture department.As part of the scheme, hands-on training had been conducted in which more than 100 palmyrah tappers had participated, the release said.
