Fill the vacancies by AITUC
The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC)-affiliated Coimbatore Labour Union has urged the Government to take expeditious steps in order to fill up existing vacancies in the State Transport Corporations. With more positions lying vacant, the existing staff were being overstretched with out even rest and leave, the union said.Keeping in mind the growing demand for public transportation facilities, the union demanded introduction of services on new routes, as well as additional services on the existing routes.
Given the growing traffic density, number of signals and bus stops, the union demanded increase in the running time for buses that were travelling from one point to another. The other demands that have been put forth by the union include revision of the wage accord validity to three years instead of the practice of five years.Welcoming the announcement on elections to the co-operative bodies, the union also discussed the issue of participating in co-operative elections. The union urged the authorities to bestow their attention upon ending the practice of drivers being denied bail at police stations in the event of an accident taking place.
