Injured 8-month-old male Barn Owl was rescued
An injured eight-month-old male Barn Owl that was rescued by a resident at Pappampatti on Wednesday.Coimbatore: An eight-month-old male Barn Owl was rescued by a resident of Pallapalayam near Pappampatti, on the outskirts of Coimbatore City, on Wednesday night.C. Neelaveni and her husband Devarajan rescued the nocturnal bird with injuries on one of its wings on Wednesday night. They brought it to the forest department. On instructions from the District Forest Officer, I. Anwardeen, the Forest Veterinarian N.S. Manoharan administered first aid. The owl was kept under observation at the Coimbatore range office. Dr. Manoharan said after the injuries healed the bird would be released into an ideal habitat.Though not a scheduled bird under the Wildlife Protection Act or endangered, there was a pertinent need to protect the owl species at a time when their habitat was shrinking, the forest officials pointed out.
