Normal rainfall in Coimbatore by TNAU

The Agro Climate Research Centre of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has predicted above normal rainfall in Coimbatore taluk and normal rainfall in parts of Coimbatore district besides Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Vellore and Salem.According to a release, the rainfall forecast for the ensuing South West monsoon 2007 for different locations of Tamil Nadu will be based on the Southern Oscillation Index and Sea Surface Temperature values using Australian Rainman Software.The historical rainfall data collected from the TNAU research stations were used to represent the information for the district.In the absence of research station in a particular district, data from Rainman Software were used.This is the seventh consecutive year the rainfall forecast is being developed and distributed to the farming community to help them in taking farming decisions.The results of the analysis indicate that above normall rainfall is expected in Coimbatore taluk, Bhavanisagar in Erode district and Dharmapuri district.
