Sakkarapani on Tuesday conducted a review on the action taken on petitions. District Collector Neeraj Mittal presided.The committee has already visited nine districts and from Coimbatore it will proceed to the Nilgiris. The panel received as many as 381 petitions of which 197 were short-listed. And 41 were qualified as per the Legislative Assembly norms.In addition, the committee took up a second review on the 41 petitions reviewed in May 22, 2005. The panel reviewed the action taken on these petitions as well as the reply given to the petitioners by the respective departments.
Mr. Sakkarapani asked the officials to be sincere and sensitive in acting on petitions to strengthen the hands of the Government. Panel members and legislators N. Malairaja, S. Pushparaj, Kuttalam K. Anbazhagan, S. Rajkumar, A. Tamilarasu, T. Ramasamy, Legislative Assembly secretary V.S. Subramanian and other legislators from Coimbatore district S. Mani, C. Shamugavelu, S.P. Velumani, O.K. Chinnaraj and T. Malaravan took part.
Pollachi sub-collector Vijay Pingle, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, A.T. Duraikumar, Corporation Commissioner P. Muthuveeran, District Revenue Officer V. Subramanian and heads of other departments responded to the petitioners.The panel also recommended construction of a ground-level bridge at Chinnar-Pambar near Udumalpet by obtaining clearance from the forest department. It promised to take steps to upgrade the Thondamuthur Government Hospital by increasing the strength of doctors from three to five, constructing a compound and providing scan, x-ray machine, ambulance and additional beds.
It also pointed out that the Government had sanctioned improvement to 70 hospitals across the State. Acting on a petition, the panel recommended a bus service from Gandhipuram to Narasipuram on an experimental basis for two months and also directed the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation to operate a service from Ukkadam to Karuvalur within 15 days.The panel also recommended upgrading of the Mudaliaplayam Government Middle School into a high school.
It asked the education department to mobilise Rs. 1 lakh towards the initial fund. It also said a small bridge would be constructed at Rs. 3 lakh in Vedapatti in three months. It asked the Collector to negotiate with the villagers to provide a burial ground at Arugampalayam near Sulur. The panel said retaining walls would be constructed along the Vellalore canal at Rs. 70 lakh.
