TNAU welcomed Srilankan minister
Milroy S. Fernando, Minister of Public Estate Management and Development, Sri Lanka, at a banana plantation at TNAU in Coimbatore on Thursday.Milroy S. Fernando, Minister of Public Estate Management and Development, Sri Lanka, visited Tamil Nadu Agricultural University on Thursday.He was accompanied by a 16-member delegation consisting of representatives from non-governmental organisations, Government officials and rural youth.
“They wanted to explore the potential to develop human resource components, based on advice from TNAU experts. They have also planned to re-model the agricultural extension programmes in Sri Lanka. There are also plans to make a private agency responsible for the extension work,” said G. Selvaraj, Director of the Open and Distance Learning Directorate of the university.Tamil Nadu Agricultural University officials and the Sri Lanka team discussed the possibility of offering certificate courses under the open and distance education mode of the TNAU, for the rural youth of Sri Lanka.Registrar of TNAU, P. Santhana Krishnan received the delegation and discussed the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the university and the ministry.
