' Van Vigyan Kendra ' in all states soon
The Indian Council of Forestry and Research and Education, Dehradun, will join hands with the Forest Departments to create van vigyan kendras in all States, Council Assistant Director-General Balbir Singh said on Wednesday.Chairing a technical session of the regional extension workshop on “Developing strategies and best practices for extension activities in the forestry sector,” organised by the Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, he said that under the 11th Plan, sustainable agro forestry models for different agro-climatic zones would be developed. Economically viable technologies would be transferred from laboratory to land.
Institute of Forest Genetics Director M. Surya Prakash called for extension activities to transfer technologies from laboratory to land.C. Ramasamy, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, explained the strategies adopted for successful implementation of extension activities. He suggested that the krishi vigyan kendras functioning in all districts be linked for dissemination of information. He highlighted the need for involving stakeholders, farmers and industrialists in discussions on forestry research to prepare user-defined research programmes. He advocated insurance cover for tree crops.
