3 coimbatore colleges updated to autonomus
Seven self-financing engineering colleges, affiliated to Anna University, Coimbatore, have been given autonomous status.The autonomy would enable these colleges to grow to their full stature as centres of excellence, Anna University, Coimbatore, Vice-Chancellor Dr R Radhakrishnan told reporters here today.Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam, Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, K S R College of Engineering, Tiruchengode, Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore, Adhiyamaan Engineering College, Hosur, Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College and Karpagam College of Engineering (both Coimbatore) were given the status.
The committees, which inspected these colleges, generally appreciated the infrastructure facilities, accreditation of UG/ PG programmes from National Board of Accreditation, commitment of the management and teaching staff and recommended the grant of autonomy to them, Radhakrishnan said.These colleges can determine their own course, curricula, methods of education and training in pursuit of excellence and evolve methods of evaluation, conduct examinations and finalise results for declaration, he said, adding autonomous status was conferred on such colleges after a gap of 24 years.S V Balasubramanian, chairman of Bannari Amman Institute, said the colleges would meet soon to discuss how to go about to meet the requirements of industry.
