The Coimbatore Medical College Hospital plans to open a department of sports medicine and an artificial limb manufacturing unit, Dean (In-Charge) V. Kumaran said on Thursday after handing over callipers and other aid to 16 persons with various disabilities.For close to a month, aid worth Rs. 30,000 had been provided to poor persons, he said. As for the sports medicine centre, Dr. Kumaran said the hospital had indented for equipment worth Rs. 6 lakh for treatment and rehabilitation of persons who suffered injuries while taking part in various sporting activities.The hospital already had an arthroscopy wing in the Department of Orthopaedics. This field dealt with injuries sustained while taking part in sports.
