Panchayat union schools get facelift

Panchayat Union elementary and middle schools are soon to get a facelift. Distrcit Collector Neeraj Mittal said that the schools in 19 panchayat unions, which were in need of essential facilities would be renovated under the Anna Marumalarchi Thittam.According to an official release, the Local Administration Minister, M.K.Stalin, had allotted Rs.135 crore for renovation of school buildings.Out of the 1011 schools identified, 987 would be provided with electrical wiring, tubelights, concrete roofs, cement flooring and new doors and windows. Some of the school buildings, which had not been painted for over three years, would be painted.

Those schools in very bad shape would be given priority, Dr.Mittal said. Out of the 987 schools, 301 had poor electrical wiring, 188 had no electricity connection and 370 had not been painted. There was also a need of 1,222 ceiling fans and 1,632 tubelights.An estimate of Rs.2.59 crore had been prepared and forwarded to the Government and the work would begin as soon as it was sanctioned.The Project Officer of District Rural Development Agency, D.Murugan, and Chief Educational Officer, S.Karmegam, were present at the review of the project by the District Collector.
