PG course in Women's Studies
In a bid to reconstruct new theories to make women visible in every sphere of development and life, Bharathiar University today said it would offer PG course in Women's Studies and regular M.Phil and Ph.D courses.Announcing this at a workshop on 'gender sentization seminar for college teachers' today,Dr K Manimekalai,director of Centre for Women's studies, BU, said the department was concerned about the gender which crossed all discliplines.It was the moral responsibility of teachers to lead social change in a positive way. They have to emphasize research in new areas to deconstruct old theories and reconstruct new ones to make women visible in every sphere of development and life, she said.
Stating that a multi-dimensional approach was essential to strengthen and harness female resources, she said women, as teachers and mothers, had to identify where they stood in the social structure, the problems being faced, the blocks they have and the strategies to be adopted to bring women and girls on par with others.BU vice-chancellor, Dr G Thiruvasagam said that Women's protection cell against women harassment has been activated in the university and issues were being dealt with seriousness and as per Supreme Court guidelines.Sonal V Misra, SP, Erode District in her address, spoke of the entrepreneurial role models and success stories of Akila Srinivasan, Ekta Kapoor, Jothi Nair, Kiran Majumdar Shaw.
