Pricol factory worked yesterday with tight security
After the labour unrest that resulted in violent incidents on Friday, work resumed at the Pricol factory at Periyanaickenpalayam on Monday morning amid tight police security.The three to four-month-old problem in Pricol, a private automotive instrument manufacturing facility at Periyanaickenpalayam, turned violent on Friday when permanent workers and temporary workers clashed resulting in injuries to 12 persons, besides damages to two buses.Following the violence, the police, entertaining seven complaints from various affected groups, registered cases against 110 persons.
The police have so far arrested more than 50 persons and are looking for the rest.Meanwhile, the issue has been referred to the Revenue Divisional Officer, Coimbatore (Executive Magistrate) under Section 107 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Under this a magistrate will inquire into the incident and he can the parties concerned to execute a bond to ensure good conduct.Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore Rural District, G. Karthikeyan has deployed nearly 400 police personnel led by five Deputy Superintendents Police in the factory. Monday was peaceful without any untoward incident.Factory management sources said of the 3,500 workers nearly 60 per cent turned up for work on Monday.
