Road block at Karumbukkadai
Residents of Karumbukkadai and Saramedu areas blocking the road near Aatuppalam on Tuesday.Traffic on Coimbatore – Pollachi/Palakkad Road remained disrupted for more than an hour on Tuesday morning when residents of Saramedu and Karumbukkadai areas blocked the road demanding improvements to the battered roads in their area.Residents of Karumbukkadai, Saramedu, Royal Nagar, Tippu Nagar, Madina Nagar, Vallal Nagar, Fathima Nagar and Saramedu thoppu areas blocked the arterial road connecting Coimbatore with Pollachi on one side and Palakkad on the other.
The roads dug up for laying pipelines in their areas remained battered and failure to restore the surface resulted in the roads turning slushy following the recent rain, they said.The residents pointed out that originally the authorities had assured to restore the road surface by July 12, but nothing had been done so far.Following traffic congestion, the authorities diverted the traffic via Nanjundapuram and Podanur. The police, Corporation and revenue officials held talks with the agitated residents. The Corporation authorities immediately pressed earth movers into service to remove the slush on the roads. Following this, the residents withdrew their agitation.
