TNAU technology commercialised
Tirunelveli-based Bhuvicare (P) Ltd would produce and sell a botanical insecticide, acorus calamus, released by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) as a new crop protection technology in 2004.A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed here by the company and Agricultural College and Research Institute, TNAU, Killukulam, on Saturday and the product would be sold under the brand name 'V' Kriyaa.
The research work on this botanical insecticide was initiated during 1992 and the trials to test its efficacy was carried out in TNAU research stations and farmers fields, university sources said.The new dust formulation consists of 10 per cent acorus calamus rhizome powder and 90 per cent of flyash, a waste product from thermal power stations. This dust formulation repels the rice earhead bug, they said.Being eco-friendly, this product was easy to formulate and there would be no residue problem and the recommended dosage was 25 kg per hectare, the sources said.
